Sissy

What does it feel like to be afraid to leave your house not knowing if you will be able to find your way back? To remember your grandmother having to tie your grandfather to a tree if she needed to do laundry, or even go to the bathroom, so he wouldn't wonder off and get lost. I talked to my sister last week...she sounded wonderful..laughing, we teased one another about certain things. Talked of my husband joining the Walker Reserve Police and of our daddy who did the same thing when we were kids. She remembered all that and I knew that once I hung up the phone she wouldn't remember I called, or when I called. When I pick up the phone to call her I wonder if she will know who I am...so far, she does. She always says the next phone call is on her...but, it never is. A few years ago I was so hurt because she would say that, and when she didn't, I would even get angry... the disease of Alzheimers sneaks up on all so slowly. Her kids didn't even realize that it was eating up her mind. My next project is to start making her small binders...I think they will work better than a phone call. My niece, Judy, says she loves looking at pictures and reading...so, although I can never give up hearing her voice for as long as I can, I will write her postings and pictures and send to her. She can look, and read, these over & over.
